The short version

The app sends anonymous product analytics and crash reports so we can see which scenes get used, which features get touched, and what crashes. There is no user account, no name, no email, and no IP address associated with those events — just a random install ID. The app never reads or transmits your personal files. If you buy Pro, the Polar checkout handles your name and email separately so we can send you a license key.

What the app sends

Product analytics. Events fire when you do things in the app — launch it, play a scene, favorite a playlist, open the mixer, click upgrade, activate a license. Each event carries:

  • A randomly-generated install ID (a UUID created on first launch and rotated whenever you reinstall — not tied to your name, email, IP, or hardware).
  • The event name (e.g. playlist_played) and a few descriptive properties (e.g. which playlist ID, which feature source).
  • Standard environment metadata: app version, macOS version, locale.

We do not collect: your name, email, IP address, device serial, file paths, or anything that could identify you. IPs are dropped server-side before storage.

Crash reports. When the app crashes, the next launch sends a stack trace so we can identify and fix the bug. No personal data is attached — same install ID scheme as analytics events.

Both go to PostHog (US cloud). See PostHog's privacy policy.

What Polar collects when you buy Pro

When you purchase Pro, our payment processor, Polar, collects what's necessary to complete the transaction:

  • Your name and email (so we can send your license key)
  • Billing and tax information required by the payment networks
  • The payment instrument itself (handled by Polar's payment partners — we never see card numbers)

Through Polar's dashboard, we can see your name, email, and the license keys issued for your purchase. We use this information only to provide support and to validate licenses. Your purchase identity is not linked to your anonymous analytics install ID.

What's stored on your Mac

Local data the app creates on your device:

  • Your license key — saved to the macOS Keychain.
  • Preferences (current scene, volume, ambient layer levels, auto-pause settings) — stored in ~/Library/Preferences/com.zernonia.lofispace.plist.
  • Cached audio and video loops — stored under ~/Library/Application Support/LofiSpace/cache/.
  • Pinned offline downloads — stored under ~/Library/Application Support/LofiSpace/pinned/.
  • Custom scene references — security-scoped bookmarks to folders you choose, saved via SwiftData.

None of this local data is read, copied, or transmitted off your Mac by us. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

Microphone & system permissions

The auto-pause feature uses CoreAudio's per-process activity API, which exposes metadata about which apps are using audio. This API does not require microphone permission and does not give Lofi Space access to your mic input. We never record audio.

Third-party services

  • PostHog — product analytics and crash reporting (US cloud). Anonymous events keyed by random install ID, IPs dropped server-side. See PostHog's privacy policy.
  • Polar — handles checkout, license issuance, and refunds. See Polar's privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare R2 — content delivery for the scene videos, lofi tracks, ambient pack, and manifest. R2 may log standard request metadata (IP, user-agent, timestamps) for abuse prevention; Lofi Space does not associate those logs with any user identity.
  • Sparkle — secure auto-update framework (open source). Sparkle requests the app's update feed from our R2 bucket.

Website

The marketing website at lofispace.app is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It uses no cookies, no analytics scripts, and no third-party tracking. Cloudflare may log standard request metadata as part of its CDN function.

Your rights

You can:

  • Delete the app and all its data at any time by dragging it to the Trash and emptying.
  • Reset your anonymous analytics identity by deleting the app and reinstalling — that rotates the install ID, so future events can't be tied back to your previous one.
  • Ask us to delete your record from our Polar dashboard by emailing [email protected].
  • Request a copy of any data we hold about you (which will essentially be: your purchase record in Polar).

If you're in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with specific data-protection laws, you have the rights granted by that jurisdiction. Email us and we'll honor them.

Children

Lofi Space isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a Polar purchase, please contact us so we can delete it.

We'll revise this page when something material changes. The "last updated" date will reflect the most recent revision.
